Jacob Allen Needham (born 29 October 1992) is an American musician, songwriter, singer, and music producer best known as the singer and co-founder of the Southern Americana Groove Rock band Jacob Needham & The Blue Trees™. As a vocalist and songwriter, Jacob has a special gift in writing polished, catchy lyrics. His signature vocal style is characterized by a diverse range that is quickly establishing his notoriety as a singer in the industry.
Jacob was born in Lafayette, Louisiana. His family then moved to Birmingham, Alabama shortly after in the winter of 1992. Jacob grew up in Wilsonville (a small country town on the outskirts of Birmingham), but later moved to Vestavia Hills, Alabama where he graduated from Vestavia Hills High School in 2011. As a young child, Jacob was always around music. His father and mother were both singer/songwriters and were heavily influenced by classic rock and country. His parents tried to put him in piano lessons, but he never showed much interest. However, a specific style of music caught his attention while he was in the third grade at Oak Mountain Middle School. One day before school, Jacob walked in to the gymnasium and noticed his friend Tim Fosters sitting with a group of guys making “beats” and free-style rapping. Jacob proceeded to join them and began making beats with pencils and “spitting lines”. He was then hooked on hip hop. Jacob discovered punk rock in the early 2000s but maintained an obsession with hip hop.
When Jacob reached high school, he started to play guitar. He learned songs by Merle Haggard, Blink 182, Toby Keith, Breaking Benjamin, Guns N’ Roses, and many more. Although he never broke into singing during his teenage years, Jacob finally found his vocal calling in early 2014 at Daystar Church in Cullman, Alabama. After going through many personal struggles, Jacob turned his life around and found a new beginning in music. While playing guitar for a friend, he experienced the inspiration he needed to start pursuing his musical dream. Jacob met a man by the name of Gene Rowley during his father’s political campaign in the Summer of 2014. After sharing his desire to write music, Rowley invited Jacob to come record in his home studio. Jacob and Gene recorded Jacob’s first song “Forever Girl” that would be released in November 2014. Jacob sold over 15,000 copies of the song and made a splash in Southern Florida on radio stations. Jacob then knew his calling in life – making music.
Jacob got his start in the live music scene in early 2015 performing at Oasis Bar in Birmingham, Alabama. Soon after, Jacob realized he needed something extra to add to his music. He then met James Tyler Cody through a musician’s classified. Together, they formed a duo and released an acoustic album titled Path To Here. After realizing their creative potential and connection, they formed Jacob Needham & The Blue Trees™.
Jacob pursued his college education at Lee University where he chose to major in Musical Arts with a minor in Marketing. Having soul and passion running through his veins, Jacob is allowing his voice and lyrics to reach the masses. His younger siblings are a major part of his passion for music as well. Jacob says “I want to show them that no matter what the odds are, or what people tell you, it is possible to make any dream a reality. All you have to do is work your ass off and have faith in the Lord above”.
